Semenaud C1

The C1 specification of 1918 called for a single-engine aircraft with twin machine guns or a single machine gun and a 37-mm cannon. The type was to have been suitable for further development as a photo reconnaissance or escort fighter.
A number of different engines were made available to manufacturers designing aircraft to meet the C1 requirement. Those using the 300-hp Hispano-Suiza 8F included the SPAD 18, 20, 21, 22, Nieuport-Delage 29, Hanriot HD.7, De Marcay 2, SAB 1, Moineau, Descamps Types 2 and 3, and the Semenaud fighter.
On 29 November 1918 the commission appointed to study new aircraft projects evaluated a design proposed by the Semenaud firm. An unusual feature was its forward-swept biplane wings.
The Semenaud fighter was built in 1918. It had a wing area of 17.50 square meters, an empty weight of 675 kg, a loaded weight of 900 kg, a maximum speed of 235 km/h at 4,000 m, could climb to 6,000 meters in 17 minutes, and had a ceiling of 8,200 meters.
It was not selected for production, the Nieuport Delage 29 with the same engine being preferred. One of the complaints about Semenaud's design was that the position of the engine under the upper wing would have made it difficult for ground crews to service it.

Semenaud Single-Engine Flying Boat

In 1918 Semenaud designed and built a flying boat probably intended for coastal patrol and "alerte" missions. It carried a crew of two separated by a 200-hp Hispano-Suiza engine powering a tractor airscrew. The pilot was seated ahead of the engine and could fire a Lewis machine gun fixed in the nose. The gunner, who also had a set of controls (which would enable him to relieve the pilot of flying duties on long missions) sat behind the engine and controlled a machine gun on a swivel mount. The wooden hull had a prominent keel, but there was no step on the underside of the hull. The airplane was not selected for use by the Aviation Maritime.

Semenaud Twin-Engine Flying Boat

In 1918 Senemaud designed a twin-engine flying boat that would have been a conventional biplane (described as having a "round section hull") with two 300-hp Hispano-Suiza engines. A crew of three was to have been carried. It remained an un-built project.
