2. In 1911: this was a high-wing monoplane with a long uncovered rectangular fuselage structure, single tailplane and elevator; a single rudder (in some pictures, a pair) set aft of the elevators. The ailerons were inset into the wing. The pilot sat on the floor below the trailing edge, the engine being set into the leading edge. The machine was supported on 2 pairs of wheels, a pair of long curved skids connected at the tips.
